OPENING RECEPTION TOMORROW! Russell Gordon's (@russellwgordon) "White Egret" is a beautifully delicate depiction of a bird, but it commands your attention. His use of negative space creates an interesting icon-like profile on the stark black background. We'll have five of Russell's works in the "Visiting Masters" exhibition opening tomorrow from 6:30-9pm. Russell will be here during the opening reception as will Mark Boedges! Sydney Bella Sparrow's (@sydneybellasparrow) oil paintings exhibit absolute technical mastery, but offer something more. Maybe it's nostalgia or that I have physical response to how the apples are painted. I can literally almost feel the skin of the fruit, smooth and with scattered natural imperfections. The unmistakable crunch and sensation of biting down on an apple is immediately brought to mind as I just LOOK at this work. Isn't that what successful art is supposed to achieve? Half of Carlos Morago's (@carlosmoragopintor) works are nothing...well I mean, not nothing, but they use "empty" space to create mystery, a place for your eyes to rest, and modern compositions. I don't know who said it, but someone alluded to the use of silence in music being an integral part of it, the absence of music is important to the overall piece of music. Imagine trying to paint moving water and being able to capture the intricacy of the flow, simultaneously towards and away from shore.
