Lindsey Kustusch and Nate Ross join us for their first dual cityscape exhibition with us! The show opens this Friday with an Opening Reception from 6-8:30 pm. We hope you can make it!
The best cityscapes are done by combining sharp, clean strokes and looser, abstract elements to truly represent the grit and motion of city life. Your eye can’t always focus on one thing, there is constant stimulation. You feel that in Lindsey and Nate’s work. They each create compositions that immediately strike a chord with viewers. Lindsey encapsulates more of the hustle and bustle while Nate focuses on the quieter areas. It’s a beautiful balance when their work is exhibited together because cities consist of both.
Lindsey and Nate decided to dedicate this show to their favorite streets, specifically those in San Francisco, where their careers and love stories began. We met at art school in San Francisco more than 20 years ago,” says Lindsey, “[we’ve] lived all over the world, traveling, working, painting, and inspiring each other to make art every single day.” Most of the paintings featured highlight the charm and iconic streets of the well-recognized city in California, but you will also find popular cities such as New York and London.
Nate Ross says he approached this latest collection work in a new way; “I am now working with mixed media instead of purely oil paint.” He is a full-time animator for the UK-based company, Framestore, and says; “The time I have for painting is relegated to nights and weekends. Waiting for oil paint to dry before working it again makes the whole painting creation process too long, so I needed to find a way to speed it up.”
You’ll notice the difference in each one of the artist’s styles as you comb through the exhibition. For example, Nate’s painting Late Afternoon Sun is a snapshot of a quiet moment within the city, while Lindsey’s Evening in the Rain is more active and representative of a stressful commute home in the rain.

We’re thrilled to present this collection of cityscapes to all of you and we hope you enjoy them as much as we do. The works are on display now and the show will be on exhibit from November 8th through December 2nd. If you can’t visit us in person, view the exhibition online by clicking here.

I came across this post while taking a break from home renovations (we’ve got a dumpster parked out front and a huge mess inside!). Reading about balance and art is a great break from the chaos. I really enjoyed reading about your reflections on these wonderful pieces. Thank you!
